And Can it Be

Tomorrow we will sing this great hymn of faith. I encourage you to listen to it and read the text as we prepare our hearts and minds for worship tomorrow.

Listen Here!

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!

He left His Father’s throne above,
So free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race;
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free;
For, O my God, it found out me.

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him is mine!
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, should die for me!

P.R.E.A.C.H. Puppet Show

Last Friday, the P.R.E.A.C.H. Puppet Ministry from Coteau Baptist Church (Houma, LA) came and shared the good news of Jesus with our families using puppets! PREACH stands for puppets reaching everyone as Christ’s hands. FBCBR has a history of amazing puppet shows, and I’m excited to tell you that our older elementary kids will be preforming for the church soon! Until then, here’s a video of some of the fun we had with the PREACH team!

Let it Be Said of Us

One of the songs we have been singing in worship is entitled “Let it Be Said of Us”. Reflect on these words below and use these lyrics as a prayer for your life and our church.

Let it be said of us that the Lord was our passion,hymnal
That with gladness we bore every cross we were given;
That we fought the good fight, that we finished our course
Knowing within us the power of the risen Lord.

Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song;
By mercy made holy, by the Spirit made strong.
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song.
‘Till the likeness of Jesus be through us made known.
Let the cross be our glory and the Lord be our song.

“Let it be said of us that the Lord was our passion.”

Do you desire to know the Lord? reflect upon Psalm 63:1- “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.’

“That with gladness we bore every cross we were given;”

Have you dealt with conflict and affliction like the apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 1:21- “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” ?

“That we fought the good fight, that we finished our course.”

Read 1 Timothy 6:12. ” Fight the good fight to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” Remember your call to preach the gospel and pray that you are faithful to that end.

“Knowing within us the power of the risen Lord.”

Read Philippians 3:7-10 “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,”

Remember that all things fail in comparison to knowing Christ.

Called for His Glory

19322

To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

– 1 Thessalonians 1:11-12

“…we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling”

What is the calling God has placed upon our lives as Christians? The call is simply stated but tough to live. Paul earlier writes in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4, verse 7:

For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness.”

As God is Holy, He has called you and me towards a life of holiness. (1 Peter 1:14-15) By God’s grace and mercy we are invited into this calling and are made holy through faith and trust in Jesus. We cannot be made holy by our own works, but by simply trusting in Jesus to make us holy.

“…and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power.”

Holiness is learned and practiced through faith and action by God’s power. Paul prays for the church in Thessalonica to trust in Jesus and every act to be motivated through their faith in Christ.

“so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him,”

The result of faith and trust in Jesus to make us holy is evident through our life and lead us to the glorification of God through us. As we are led by the Holy Spirit and changed from a self-glorified man to one who is filled by the Spirit and a new creation in Christ.

Pray: As Paul prayed this prayer for the church in Thessalonica, make this prayer a prayer for you and our church.
